“I can call spirits from the vasty deep!”
“Why, so can I, and so can any man. But will they come when you do call for them?”
-Shakespeare, King Henry IV part 1.
Hotspur was the youthful and often reckless leader of the rebellion against King Henry IV of England. Fearing none, but heavily outnumbered, the hotheaded warrior fought bravely but died at the hands of Prince Hal.
This dark German ale leaps into the fray immediately giving voice to its delicious malts and striking tones of banana and clove. Only a monarch of overwhelming power could vanquish a draught such as this.
This Dunkelweizen is a classic with a twist. While most focus simply on a hefty banana and clove aroma we subdued both and boldly added some chocolate malt to bring out another dimension to the bouquet. The flavor is soft and bready with a balanced of wheat and clove. There is a low bitterness to Hotspur allowing the finish to develop a slight tart sensation.
